A critical step in addressing some of the national real estate market’s biggest challenges has emerged on Capitol Hill. A group of lawmakers has announced the creation of the new Bipartisan Congressional Real Estate Caucus, aimed at tackling the lack of housing affordability and inventory nationwide.
The National Association of REALTORS®, alongside influential groups like the National Association of Home Builders, Mortgage Bankers Association, and American Land Title Association, has welcomed this initiative as a significant stride towards resolving the housing market’s pressing issues.
At the forefront of the caucus’s agenda is the housing supply crisis. Researchers have highlighted a staggering deficit ranging from 1.5 million to 5.5 million housing units, attributing it to population growth and insufficient housing production nationwide. Economists have linked this shortage directly to the escalating home prices.
In response, NAR emphasized bipartisan consensus on the nation’s housing affordability crisis. "Homeownership is a bipartisan issue," NAR stated, commending the formation of the caucus to address housing accessibility and pledging support to advance advocacy efforts.
The caucus aims to develop policies focused on increasing the nation’s housing supply while expanding homeownership and rental housing opportunities for more Americans.

Reps. Mark Alford (R-Mo.), J. Luis Correa (D-Calif.), Tracey Mann (R-Kan.), and Brittan Pettersen (D-Colo.) are credited for launching the caucus. The National Apartment Association underscored the bipartisan nature of housing issues, emphasizing the need for commonsense solutions.
